STEALING DAN ...and Don

"There's been talk, and lately a bit of action after dark..."

Saw Stealing Dan . . .and Don at the Brook, Southampton yesterday. They were good a year ago, but have developed into a really tight 10-piece band - excellent arrangements, good soloing, 3 alternating vocalists and a superb horn section. Highly recommended - Chas.
I heard this lot at the Grey Horse in Kingston a couple of years ago, and I can vouch for their excellence. - Louis Barfe
I have visited a pub in london & witnessed a fantastic tribute band, named above. If any of you fans want a great gig, then go see these guys, they perform all over london. vic..
Congratulations on even daring this audacious project. - Tim
...the range of Dan songs you do is wider than the other bands. And you do stuff from Kamakiriad & Nightfly too, excellent. Keep up the good work:- Frank
...Pretzel Logic was the best with great tempo and brilliant, whining guitar licks by, I think, Jeremy. I feel their performance to be so tight by anyone's standards... Pete
Just thought I send you a few words after last night's gig at the Bull's Head. A great evening, as usual. My mate seemed to enjoy the whole thing, especially the band's rendition of "Time out of Mind". Perhaps we've got another convert...Andy
That's Stealing Dan (and Don) who played a blinding set in west London on Tuesday evening. Long championed on this list by Jonathan Grogan (who I had the pleasure of meeting at the gig), Stealing didn't disappoint in their tribute versions of Steely classics. The ten man line up was in fine form - 2 guitars, keyboards, 2 percussionists, bass, 4 horns - and (literally) played their way through the Dan's songbook - from memory they covered Haitian Divorce, Josie, Babylon Sisters, Peg, Reelin' (featuring Robin's scorching almost-Zappaesque guitar solo which, as I was sitting in the line of his Fender amp, made a great impression! - and caused one member of the audience to shout out "Better than the real thing!"), Do It Again, Kings, Midnight Cruiser (great to hear the latter two songs live), Peg, FM, My Old School, Night by Night, Home At Last, Black Cow, Gaucho, Time Out of Mind and - fulfilling their (and Don) obligations - IGY and Green Flower Street. The band are excellent and the horn section flesh out the sound brilliantly - the baritone sax gives a warmth and depth to the sound - which was far better than the real Dan sound that I witnessed at Wembley back on the last tour. The Bulls Head pub where they played is a famous London jazz club and the place was gratifyingly pretty full. Sadly I had to leave before the end to catch my train for the long slog back across town, but it was a superb evening and I'm looking forward to my next encounter with Stealing Dan - Ian
I want to know whether I can buy a cd's worth of your Dan interpretations, because I think they're tremendous! - Dave
...very impressive in it's clarity and the tightness of the playing (the brass section work particularly!), the dead-odd bass and drums and the really tasty piano playing. - Paul
A 10-piece band (incl 4 brass(often hired hands)/kybds/perc) of moonlighting pro musicians, they're slick and well rehearsed, and all the material is well within their technical abilities. I don't think even Donald would complain if he had to sing in front of this lot. I'll be catching them whenever I can. - Jon
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it myself. - Martin
I loved Stealing Dan at the Bull's Head. Seeing them was one of the highlights of my visit to London. Bands in Australia never play more than one or two Steely Dan tracks, so seeing a band whose entire set consists of Steely Dan covers was just amazing. I'm the envy of many of my friends. The band did a brilliant job of handling the challenging material, and I loved the big brass section...Bodhisattva has never sounded so fat! - Justin
